Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere reluctant to go too far in praise of Tottenham.

Jack Wilshere of Arsenal warms up during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Brighton and Hove Albion at Emirates Stadium on October 1, 2017 in London, England.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has urged Tottenham not to get ahead of themselves.

The two sides meet in the North London derby at The Emirates after the international break, and Wilshere is hoping to play a part.

Spurs finished above Arsenal last season and won the last derby, and also enter this one sitting above the Gunners in the table.

Wilshere was asked by SkySports whether this now makes Tottenham the best side in North London.

Wilshere’s response predictably saw him refuse to concede this claim.

He said: “We’ll see. You’re only as good as your last game. We lost our last game and we need to bounce back.

“It’s a massive game, and we’re looking to get three points. We’ll be ready for it.”

Wilshere has revelled in taunting Spurs in the past when Arsenal were seen as the superior side, but did have words of praise for this Tottenham side.

He added: “They’ve come a long way in the last few years. They finished above us last year, and we want to finish above them this year.”

Three points for Arsenal would bring them almost level with Spurs in the Premier League table – with the gap currently four points – and dent their rival’s title ambitions.

It is a game the Gunners cannot afford to lose if they are to have any hope of getting into this year’s race, already sitting 12 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City.
