Jack Wilshere has insisted that he enjoyed training under West Ham United boss David Moyes on the ITV Football Podcast.

Moyes never really gave Wilshere a chance at West Ham and ultimately released him this summer.

The England international had to watch from the sidelines as West Ham avoided the drop last season.

But Wilshere insists that he actually enjoyed working with Moyes, even if there was no room for him in the squad.

“When the new manager came in I thought it was going to be a really good thing for me,” he said.

“I spoke to him straight away and he was like ‘I need you to get fit, you’re part of my plans’.

“Then the lockdown came and we weren’t in a good position in the league.

“I really enjoyed working with Moyes, I thought his training was good, obviously I would have liked more opportunity to play but I respect his decision.

“I just felt we were going into big games after lockdown where we were defending most the time, and he wanted to play Dec and Soucek in midfield and they were brilliant, so I couldn’t argue with that.

“But I felt that there wasn’t really place for a technical player who wanted to get on the ball and make things happen.

“It was more about getting onto second balls and intercepting play.”

Wilshere is still looking for a new club, after being released by West Ham.

The former Arsenal man never really managed to show the West Ham crowd what he could do, as injury really thwarted his progress.

Wilshere hasn’t exactly been missed by the Hammers this term, either – as Moyes’s side are in encouraging form.

West Ham are now in eighth place in the Premier League table, having taken 14 points from their first eight games.
