Jack Wilshere comments should put Newcastle United and West Ham United on alert

Newcastle United and West Ham United were linked to Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere in the summer.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has admitted that he might have to leave the Emirates Stadium as soon as January in order to find more regular football, according to the Daily Mail.

Wilshere played 90 minutes in Thursday’s Europa League defeat to Cologne but has yet to start in the Premier League for the Gunners this season.

The Daily Mail reports that the 25-year-old’s contract with his boyhood club expires at the end of the season, but that Wilshere might not wait until the summer to move on in his career.

Wilshere told the Daily Mail that he wants to have an “honest” conversation with manager Arsene Wenger about where he stands before deciding on what to do when the transfer window reopens.

“We have got a month until then and me and the boss will probably have a conversation before then and see what happens because obviously when January comes I have only got six months left on my contract,” he is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying.

“We will see what happens between now and then, I will talk to the boss. We have known each other for long enough and we have a good relationship where we can be honest with each other so I’m sure we will be and then we will go from there.

“I’ve said before that I want to stay here and play. I’ve been at this club for years. I don’t have to say how much this club means to me, how good they have been to me. But at the same time as well, the boss has got to be honest with me and I’m sure he will.”

Wilshere seems resigned to the fact that he is not going to break back into the Arsenal first team and that could be good news for Newcastle United or West Ham United.

According to The Sun, both clubs were interested in signing the 34-times capped England international in the summer, so should be alerted by him making exit noises.

The Rafael Benitez factor could give Newcastle the advantage if they can lure Wilshere away from London, and his creativity would be a huge addition to the Magpies’ midfield.
