West Ham United midfielder Jack Wilshere has told The Mirror of his admiration for striker Marko Arnautovic – but admits the Austrian gives him stick.

The Hammers were busy in the summer transfer window, and whilst some have been impressive, such as Lukasz Fabianski, Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena, others haven’t quite hit great heights yet.

One of those is Wilshere, who joined his boyhood club on a free transfer this summer from Arsenal, having walked away at the end of his contract with the Gunners.

Many were concerned about a deal for Wilshere given his injury history, and they have so far been proven right, with the midfielder currently on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

Wilshere is recovering from ankle surgery, and has taken the time to speak about one of his West Ham teammates – outstanding forward Arnautovic.

The Austrian international, signed from Stoke City in 2017, starred last season with 11 goals and six assists in 31 outings, and has already notched four goals and one assist in seven games this season.

Arnautovic is West Ham’s star man, and Wilshere has told The Mirror that he thinks Arnautovic is up there with the very best strikers he has played with – and even added that he has been receiving stick from the forward ever since his arrival.

“Arnautovic is some player,” said Wilshere. “I’ve played with some strikers, great players. “He is up there. He is right up there. Ability-wise, he’s powerful, got so much in his game. His attitude is brilliant. He’s a good character and is one of the leaders in the team as well. He welcomed me in. He gives me a bit of stick but I can handle it,” he added.
