Why didn’t Everton boss Ronald Koeman renew an interest in Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere?

Ronald Koeman lept to the defence of Everton midfielder Davy Klaassen this week.
The Dutchman hasn’t exactly lit up the Premier League following his £25 million switch from Ajax in the summer, though Koeman suggests he just needs time.
But a settling-in period wouldn’t have been necessary had the Everton man returned for one of his January targets instead of signing Klaassen.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, linked with a move to Goodison Park in January, would’ve been a smarter option, in retrospect, and for £25 million Arsene Wenger would’ve found it hard to turn down such money for a player he loaned to Bournemouth last season.
Wilshere, 25, is a year older than the Netherlands international but is a proven Premier League player. He just might’ve made an instant impact on Merseyside.

Like Klaassen, he is best in a box-to-box role, but he is so much more penetrative and incisive than his Dutch counterpart and he’ll prove as much at Arsenal again.
He is back in North London this season, taking chances as he gets them, but there is plenty of competition in Wenger’s squad and he may not have turned up his nose at the prospect of joining Everton.
