The Sheffield Wednesday Under-23s captain has only eight appearances since his August move to Port Vale

Jack Stobbs played for Sheffield Wednesday’s Under-23s on Monday, despite being on a season-long loan to Port Vale.
Though it is not uncommon for players loaned out to lower division sides to continue to train with – and indeed, appear for – their parent clubs, Stobbs’ presence at Middlewood Road is surely indicative of his lack of action so far for Vale.
The 20-year-old winger has made only eight appearances since his August move to Vale Park, and played 19 minutes of league football since 12 September.

So what’s keeping Stobbs out of Vale’s first team plans? A managerial changeover certainly hasn’t helped, with Michael Brown (yes, that Michael Brown) relieved of his duties the following week. While Vale’s over-stocking of loan players (they currently have seven on their books) means two must be left out of every matchday squad, with Stobbs proving a popular omission.
No doubt neither he nor Wednesday will be pleased with the way things have gone for the Owls Under-23s captain down in the Potteries.
And, should the situation continue into the New Year, an early recall could be on the cards. He’s practically back as it is.
Is Stobbs better off in Wednesday’s Under-23s?
