Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke is set to feature tomorrow, as long as he makes it off the treatment table.

Sunderland boss Jack Ross has suggested to the Chronicle that Charlie Wyke could come back into his team’s starting line-up at the weekend.

Sunderland take on Southend United in their final game of the season, knowing that they cannot break into the top two.

Sunderland looked on track to earn automatic promotion, but a dip in form at the worst possible time means that they will now have to attempt to go up through the play offs.

Ross may have been tempted to rest players for their match against Southend, as a result.

However, the Sunderland boss has hinted that Wyke could be picked to start – although Aiden McGeady looks set to miss out.

“We’re hoping Charlie Wyke will be back after missing Tuesday, but Aiden [McGeady] will probably remain out because we want to give him as much chance as possible to be as healthy as possible for the play offs,” he said.

Ross came out and criticised Will Grigg, who is Wyke’s main competition for a striking place at Sunderland, after their recent defeat to Fleetwood Town.

Sunderland lost 2-1 to Joey Barton’s men, with Grigg once again failing to get on the scoresheet.

And if Wyke can impress against Southend then he will surely secure his place in Sunderland’s team for their play off campaign.
