Sunderland boss Jack Ross has praised Celtic’s Lewis Morgan.
Sunderland boss Jack Ross has told the Sunderland Echo that he thought Lewis Morgan was impressive against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.
The Black Cats notched another League One win by beating Plymouth 2-0 at the Stadium of Light, keeping the pressure on Barnsley and Luton Town.
Lee Cattermole opened the scoring after smart wing play from Morgan, and Aiden McGeady’s second half cross round George Honeyman to make it two.
Ross will be delighted with the performance and the result, and whilst McGeady continues to shine, new signing Morgan impressed many on Saturday.
Morgan, 22, joined Sunderland on loan from Celtic on deadline day having struggled for playing time under Brendan Rodgers in the first half of the season.
The playmaker, who can play as a 10 or on either flank, had a number of options in January but chose a move to Sunderland in order to play under his former St Mirren boss Ross again.
Morgan got a start on Saturday after a number of substitute appearances, and manager Ross has now praised his impact.
Ross has admitted that Morgan was impressive and has been training well, believing his contribution against Plymouth was good whilst explaining that Morgan is having to play on the right because McGeady is so good on the left right now.
“He was good, he was good last week when he came on,” said Ross. “I have a close relationship with him anyway, he has trained really well over the last couple of weeks and he always backs himself and believes he is good enough to play but he has to show that all the time and against Bristol and in the first half showed what he is capable of.”
“He is a good player, no doubt about that and the other players recognise that. His contribution was good. Lewis has played more of his career on the left, he is very two footed, he usually is on the left but we obviously have a player on that side of the pitch that is in very good form,” he added.
