Luke O’Nien joined Jack Ross’s Sunderland in the summer transfer window.

O’Nien played well for Sunderland against Shrewsbury Town at the weekend and scored in the Black Cats’ 2-0 victory in League One.
The 23-year-old midfielder has scored one goal in six League One appearances for the Black Cats so far this season, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
The youngster joined Sunderland from Wycombe Wanderers in the summer transfer window.
Sunderland manager Ross has praised the progress O’Nien has made for the Black Cats so far this season.

Ross told The Chronicle about O’Nien: “He has been an interesting one for us, he is still very young and the transition he has made to Sunderland, I have been pleased how he has settled in. I think he went through a period where he was overthinking.
“He even came away from doing the things he normally did well in training, we had a chat and he has trained really well this past fortnight.
“He has been back to what he does best. The thing about him is he is a fine finisher, he works so hard at it.
“When he gets in to those positions most of us expected him to score. I am delighted for him from a personal point of view.”
Pushing for promotion
Sunderland are going strong in League One at the moment, and are in a great position to finish in the top two and clinch automatic promotion to the Championship at the end of the season.
The Black Cats are third in the League One table at the moment with 26 points from 13 matches, seven points behind leaders Portsmouth with a game in hand.
