Jack Baldwin played well for Sunderland against Burnley in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old central defender made his first appearance of the season for the Black Cats during their EFL Cup tie against Burnley away from home at Turf Moor on Wednesday evening.
The former Peterborough United star was superb at the back for the League One outfit and produced a no-nonsense display, as Ross’s side won 3-1 against the Clarets.
Sunderland boss Ross was impressed with the display produced by the 26-year-old against Premier League club Burnley and has raved about him, saying that he has applied himself in training despite his lack of playing time.
Ross told The Chronicle about Baldwin: “I thought Jack was terrific. It makes it sound like everything is rosy at the club, but the truth is I have a very good group to work with and Jack is another example of a player who has not had any game time but he has continued to apply himself every single day in training, and has shown the right attitude and willingness to do more work with the coaching staff.
“So for him to come into the side tonight and produce that kind of performance is testament to his standards and commitment levels.”
Important player
Baldwin may have fallen down the pecking order at Sunderland, but the 26-year-old central defender remains an important player in Ross’s team.
The defender knows League One inside out, and with the Black Cats aiming to finish in the top two of the League One table this season, he will be important for the Stadium of Light outfit.
