Rangers take on Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership today – and it means Jon McLaughlin could face his former boss.

The Gers have been impressive this season, and have yet to even concede a goal in the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers’ goalkeeper for the league campaign has been summer signing McLaughlin, but McGregor returned to the side to face Lincoln Red Imps in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Steven Gerrard now faces a difficult decision against Hibs, on whether to stick with McGregor or bring McLaughlin back in.

The summer signing from Sunderland has been impressive so far this season, and today’s game would see him go up against his former boss.

Hibs manager Jack Ross brought McLaughlin to Sunderland in 2018, and his form for Rangers is seemingly no surprise to him.

Ross has told The Scotsman that he felt McLaughlin was ‘brilliant’ for him at Sunderland, praising his ability as a player and his character.

Ross added that he never believed McLaughlin would be happy sitting on the bench, and is delighted for him having made such a strong impression at Ibrox.

“It hasn’t surprised me,” said Ross. “He was brilliant for me, he was up there with as good a signing I made at the club. He has reliability and quality, and is very low maintenance as a player as well. He is very relaxed and calm, and a pretty level headed guy. He is really good to work with, in that respect. I know how good a goalkeeper he is, and I’m looking forward to seeing him”

“I am delighted for him personally that he has made such a good start to his career there. I never believed he would be happy just going there and being a back-up,” he added.
