Benji Kimpioka made his Sunderland league debut recently.

Sunderland boss Jack Ross has told the Sunderland Echo that he finds it interesting how Benji Kimpioka interacts with supporters on the pitch.

Kimpioka made his Sunderland league debut against Peterborough United last week, after catching the eye of Ross in training.

And Ross admits that the 18-year-old is a player who he finds an interesting talent.

He said: “Even his interaction with the crowd, it’s interesting to see that. I like him, he’s got really good attributes.

“He’s still very young but to get some first team involvement is good for him. We’ll hopefully get some more first team game time into him in the Checkatrade.”

Kimpioka is still trying to force his way into Sunderland’s team, but he could be given a chance tonight.

Sunderland are due to take on Carlisle United in the Football League Trophy, with Ross set to name a much changed line-up.

Sunderland are challenging for promotion, and Ross is likely to want to rest some of his more integral players to ensure that they are fresh for the weekend.

A big performance from Kimpioka this evening would do his first-team chances no harm though, with Ross clearly an admirer of the prospect’s talents already.
