Sunderland manager Jack Ross has told The Chronicle that he never worried about striker Will Grigg.
Grigg joined League One outfit Sunderland from Championship side Wigan Athletic on January trashier deadline day for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £4 million.
The 27-year-old striker arrived at the Stadium of Light with a strong reputation, but the Northern Ireland international has failed to make a huge impact at the Black Cats so far.
According to WhoScored, the striker has scored one goal in six League One appearances for Sunderland so far this season.
The former Brentford striker scored for Sunderland in their 2-0 win against Bristol Rovers away from home in the semi-finals of the EFL Trophy on Tuesday evening.
Sunderland manager Ross has praised Grigg, and has suggested that he was never worried about the striker despite not playing well since his switch to the Black Cats.
Ross told The Chronicle about Grigg: “First of all, he’s overall play has been very good. It’s no coincidence we’ve created a lot more opportunities since he’s been in the team because he’s helped us in the final third in terms of a tactical approach.
“Secondly, never have I worried about him. If you listen to his after-match interviews he believes in himself. He’s not arrogant, he just believes in himself and he should because his record speaks for itself.
“Having got to know him over the last five or six weeks I’ve never once been concerned about his ability to play for this club and score goals.”

Back in 2015-16, the striker scored 25 goals and provided six assists in 40 League One matches for the Latics, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
