Jack Ross comments on first conversation with Sunderland’s Grant Leadbitter

Sunderlan signed Grant Leadbitter from Middlebsrough in the January transfer window.

Sunderland boss Jack Ross has admitted to the Northern Echo that he took a shining to Grant Leadbitter from the very first time that they spoke.

Sunderland snapped up Leadbitter from Middlesbrough during the January transfer window.

And Ross claims that from the very first time he spoke with the central midfielder, he knew Leadbitter would be a good addition.

“It’s always interesting when you speak to a player for the first time, you can quickly establish whether or not you’ll have a very good connection with them and when I spoke to Grant for the first time, we spoke at length and we share quite a big passion for the game, which helps,” Ross said.

“Anything we ask him, he will do to his absolute maximum and he’ll influence others around him.”

Leadbitter has already made his Sunderland debut against AFC Wimbledon.

The experienced midfielder stared for the Black Cats in their 1-0 victory over Wimbledon last weekend.

Leadbitter generally impressed with his showing, with his passing range coming to the fore.

Leadbitter is expected to start again for Sunderland when they take on Oxford United on Saturday.
