After the first leg of Tottenham Hotspur’s FA Youth Cup semi-final with Chelsea, most of the talk from a Spurs perspective was about their goal-scorer Kazaiah Sterling.
The 18-year-old netted a fine strike to ensure Tottenham are still in the tie, albeit with a 2-1 deficit to overcome, but were it not for another fine Spurs prospect things could have been different.
Jack Roles may have only been on the field for 16 minutes on Tuesday evening but he showed in that brief time what a talent he is.
His performance changed the game and Tottenham owe their goal as much to the 18-year-old midfielder as they do to Sterling.
Roles has been making waves in Tottenham’s academy for some time now, scoring six goals in his first five under-18 appearances this season including a 16-minute brace against Swansea City.
An attacking midfielder equally comfortable on the wing, Roles may not be generating the same buzz as Sterling or Marcus Edwards before him, but based on this season alone he could be another Tottenham gem.
