Sunderland are due to face Everton in Premier League action later this evening.
Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell has told the Chronicle that he believes Everton will be a major threat this season.
Rodwell came through the ranks at Everton, before moving to Manchester City earlier in his career.
The England international has continued to keep a keen eye on his old club’s fortunes, and he believes that Everton have made big strides this summer.
“I’ve been impressed with them this year,” Rodwell said. “They made some signings and spent a bit of money.
“Last season they always played football but they just look a bit more solid and ruthless now.
“With the football they can play, if you add that to it, they will be a threat this season.”
Everton appointed Ronald Koeman in the summer, and they also spent a sizeable amount of money on their first-team squad.
The Toffees have made a good start to the new campaign, and they are currently unbeaten after their first three matches.
Rodwell and Sunderland will be looking to halt Everton later this evening, when the two sides meet at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland are yet to win a match this term, and they will be desperate to get their season up and running sooner rather than later – to avoid being dragged into another relegation battle.
Everton, meanwhile, have started well and they have gone unbeaten through their opening trio of Premier League matches.
