Jack Nicklaus is widely regarded as the best golfer to have ever graced the game.

While some may say Tiger Woods is the greatest, what cannot be debated is the fact that Nicklaus stands head and shoulders above everyone else, Woods included, when it comes to his major championship record.

The Golden Bear won 73 PGA Tour titles throughout his career – 18 of which were major championships.

So it goes without saying that amateur golfers looking to improve their game should listen intently to any golf tips that Jack Nicklaus has to offer.

Nicklaus is well known for giving advice to modern-day PGA Tour players, but he has also made a habit of offering a helping hand to amateur golfers throughout the years.

If you are an amateur golfer who wants to improve, the 86-year-old’s advice on the golf swing could prove invaluable.

In his prime, Nicklaus had more control of his clubface than any golfer on the planet.

Tiger Woods came close to matching Nicklaus’ clubface control and Scottie Scheffler has achieved similar levels of expertise.

However, the Golden Bear still stands head and shoulders above everyone else regarding his driving of the golf ball and his iron play during his heyday.

When speaking during an instructional video posted by Mentality Golf on YouTube, Nicklaus shared his number one tip for amateurs who are looking to improve their golf swings.

“The single most important element in swinging a golf club, is a steady head, he said.

“Without a steady head, all the other fundamentals go out the window.

“I like to feel like I have a stake through my body and driven all the way into the ground and then I rotate around that stake when I play a shot.

It sets up a slight hip forward body angle, and that body angle is right here, and then I try to maintain that angle and my head position throughout the golf swing.

“So let’s try to keep the head right in one spot and leave it there throughout the golf shot.”

Why Jack Nicklaus’ advice is so crucial for amateurs to implement

Nicklaus’ advice centers around stability.

If your head remains as still and steady as possible throughout the golf swing, you have a great chance of reproducing the same motion every single time.

Now, Nicklaus’ head was angled back towards his trail leg at the start of the backswing, but it did not sway from one side to the other throughout his motion.

Playing better golf is all about making things as simple as possible.

Without having a solid base and a steady head, it’s almost impossible to get all of the other key fundamentals right.

As Jack Nicklaus said, keeping your head steady throughout your golf swing is pivotal to your hopes of improving and achieving any kind of success in the game.
