Ryan Fox is the new holder of the Claret Jug following his fantastic victory at The Open Championship.

Fox has just claimed his maiden major championship win, which has arrived via a one-shot victory over Cameron Young at Royal Birkdale.

And while he is in full-blown celebration mode, the messages of congratulations have been flowing in for the New Zealand ace.

That includes kind words from two of the most high-profile names in golf, with Jack Nicklaus and Bryson DeChambeau having reached out to Fox following his success at The Open.

Jack Nicklaus and Bryson DeChambeau congratulate Ryan Fox as he wins The Open

On his official Instagram account, a message from 18-time major champion Nicklaus read: “Every trip across the pond warrants a souvenir for the kids.

“Well, Ryan Fox, your kids said they wanted you to bring home a trophy and you did! And it’s a great trophy! One you absolutely earned!

“When a guy goes out and birdies 4 of his last 6 holes, including the 18th – the hardest hole at Royal Birkdale, with a tough tee shot and a very difficult pin today – that is earning yourself your first major championship!

“Another member of The Bear’s Club brings home a major this year – [Rory McIlroy] at [The Masters] and now Ryan at [The Open]!

“Cam Young, also a member of the Club, played a wonderful round today with a 64! Actually, Cam has played great all year.

“He has put himself in position every week and given himself a chance. It’s obvious he’s becoming a better player, week after week. Congratulations Cam on a tournament well played!

“Again, congrats and well done, Ryan, on a great win! Good things happen to good people. We couldn’t be happier for you!”

And DeChambeau, who finished T14 at The Open, posted on his Instagram: “A lot of ups and downs this week, to say the least. But I’m proud of the way I fought through it.

“Thank you to all my supporters for carrying me through. Onwards and upwards from here. Congratulations to [Ryan Fox] on an incredible win!”

Justin Rose congratulates The Open champion Ryan Fox

They are certainly very nice words from Nicklaus and DeChambeau, who certainly know how Fox is feeling right now.

The same can be said of former major winner Justin Rose, who has also reached out to the New Zealander after his success.

Rose, who missed the cut at Royal Birkdale, commented on his Instagram story: “Congratulations [Ryan Fox]. What a finish [The Open].”

Fox is very clearly a popular champion, with his victory in Southport certainly very well deserved given his efforts throughout the week.

The first time winner finished his tournament on 10-under, also ranking in first place with his 21 birdies across his 72 holes of the event.
