The Leeds United forward will spend the rest of the season in Scotland.
As confirmed by Airdrieonians’ official Twitter account on Sunday, the Scottish side have completed a loan move for Leeds United youngster Jack McKay, and it is one the striker will be desperate to make a success.
McKay is one of a number of exciting young forwards currently on the books at Elland Road and he will be well aware of the challenges ahead.
You only need to ask Lee Erwin how difficult it is to break through at Elland Road in the face of stiff competition for places, and McKay will be hoping to hit the ground running and ultimately prove to Leeds manager Garry Monk that he has what it takes to succeed long term at the club.
McKay signed for Leeds from Rotherham United almost exactly a year ago, making the move along with his twin brother Paul.
Since then the duo have had to make do with under-23 football as they bid to add to their early outings for the Millers.
McKay has started to find his feet for Leeds’ second string and has begun to find the back of the net. However the trick is to do that at senior level; something he now has the chance to do with Airdrie.
Monk has shown he is not afraid to give youth a chance at Leeds but they have to justify their inclusion and McKay now has the next few months to lay the groundwork for what could be a breakout campaign next season.
