Defender Hendry has claimed interest from down south was rife, but Celtic move was a no-brainer.

Deadline-day recruit Jack Hendry has told Celtic’s official website that he was attracting interest from down south but chose to move to Brendan Rodgers’ side instead.

Sky Sports claim 22-year-old defender Hendry has joined for a fee of £1.2million plus add-ons, in what is a club-record fee received by his former side Dundee after an excellent start to life in the Scottish Premiership.

Hendry only joined Dundee at the start of the season as his contract at English League One side Wigan Athletic expired, allowing Neil McCann’s side to land the 6ft 3in centre-back on a free transfer.

Glasgow-born ace Hendry claims he had plenty of options in terms of leaving Dundee on deadline day, but he chose Celtic as it was a “perfect fit” to move to the Scottish Premiership champions.

“There was a lot of interest from down south as well but to be honest there was only one place I wanted to come and that was Celtic,” Hendry said. “The coaching staff, the squad, the facilities and the fan-base tick all the boxes for me.

“I’m looking to strive in this kind of environment. I see myself as a winner and there is a winning mentality here so this is definitely something I want to be part of and I feel that it suits me well. It was a perfect fit really.”

Hendry has put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year deal under the guidance of Rodgers, and comes as a much-needed centre-back with Marvin Compper injured and Erik Sviatchenko returning to FC Midtjylland on loan.

He could make his debut for the Hoops on Saturday as Rodgers takes his side to Rugby Park to face Kilmarnock in a lunchtime kick-off, as he looks for his side to maintain an 11-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
