Jack Hendry might be playing for his Celtic career if he plays on Wednesday.
It’s fair to say that Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has something of a crisis to contend with, in regards to centre-back options.
Kristoffer Ajer is suspended for Wednesday’s clash with Hibernian and, with Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic both injured, the Celtic manager has a dilemma.
Jozo Simunovic is likely to continue in central defence, but the big question is who his partner will be – and the answer might well be Jack Hendry.
The Scotland international is Rodgers’s best option at the moment, but the problem is that he hasn’t kicked a ball for the Hoops since October.
It was a horrendous first few months of the season for Hendry, who was regularly slammed by the Parkhead faithful following a series of erratic displays, but if he plays on Wednesday then it’s a golden chance to win back some of his critics.
He must be rusty and low on confidence by virtue of the fact that he hasn’t played for so long, and that makes him something of a gamble from Rodgers’s perspective.
But it could also be the path that the 23-year-old – a £1.5 million signing last January [The Record] – needs back to first-team prominence.
If he blows it, then Hendry, linked with an exit last month [The Scottish Sun], will do well to play another game for the Bhoys.
