Jack Harrison might have more of a connection to Jesse Marsch than most Leeds United players, having come through the American academy system. On Thursday night, he gave a four-word verdict on training under Marsch.
Marsch, 48, has made an impressive start to life at Elland Road – presenting a warm and approachable persona to the players. His first press conference was excellent; many Leeds fans applauded his humility and knowledge.
Harrison, of course, came through the academies in America before shining at New York City. That form, saw him join Manchester City permanently and after three season-long loans, he finally joined Leeds last summer for £15m.
Posting on Instagram after Marsch’s first four days in charge, Harrison gave a four-word verdict on training under the American gaffer. The winger posted a picture alongside new Leeds coach, Cameron Toshack.
Harrison on Marsch training: Optimism re-injected at Leeds
In the last few games under Bielsa, Leeds fans have been expecting defeat. There has been no hope of a result – and conceding 14 goals to Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool makes it an understandable point of view.
Now, with Marsch in charge, there is renewed hope that Leeds can fight what seemed inevitable a week ago – relegation. A new press, a new formation, zonal marking instead of man marking. There is a new faith.
Harrison is likely to be a crucial player over the next few months with Marsch probably going to use a 4-2-2-2 system. Dan James might play up top with Rodrigo, meaning James and Raphinha on the wings. Time will tell.
