The boyhood Aston Villa’s fan played a key role in the club’s ascent last season.

Aston Villa’s promotion has proved lucrative for one Villans player in particular, according to the Daily Mirror.
The newspaper reports (page 61 of its Friday, 26 July edition) that a clause in Jack Grealish’s contract has seen the midfielder’s wages increase to a £100,000 per week.
Grealish proved Aston Villa’s talisman in the final few months of last season, having sat out the best part of three months through injury.
And while it remains to be seen how the boyhood Villa fan’s salary compares to those of the Villans’ 10 summer recruits, he’d perhaps be deserving of highest-earner status.

Grealish will be joined in Aston Villa’s midfield by the more defensive-minded, Douglas Luiz (signed from Manchester City on Thursday) and Marvelous Nakamna (reportedly due to arrive from Club Brugge).
And that could increase the level of freedom given to the 23-year-old, who has already scored or made 50 goals in 184 games at club level.
Who do you think should be Aston Villa’s highest-earning player?
