Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham almost left Dean Smith’s side in January to join Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Abraham nearly left Villa to join Wolverhampton Wanderers in January, as reported by BBC Sport.
However, Abraham ended up sticking with Villa and rejecting his chance to go and play in the Premier League with Wolves.
It turns out that Grealish’s words were crucial to keeping the claret and blues’ top scorer around.
Grealish told Abraham that he would be back from injury sooner than he ever was going to be, to encourage him to stay at Villa.
“Tammy was close to leaving in January and he kept saying to me when are you going to be back,” the playmaker said.
“I had to keep lying to Tammy and saying I would be back by the end of January, when really I knew in my head I wouldn’t be back until March. I just wanted to get the window out the way, so he ended up staying.

“I always said to him we’ll link up again and we’ll get back in the play offs and go up.”
Grealish’s desire to keep Abraham around played a big part in helping Villa to earn promotion.
Abraham scored frequently, as Villa went on a brilliant run of form towards the end of the campaign to push into the top six.
Dean Smith’s side then won 2-1 against Derby County at Wembley yesterday to secure their place in the Premier League again.
