Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish has taken to Twitter in order to send a message to fans after signing a new contract with the club.

A boyhood Villa fan, Grealish came up through the club’s ranks and emerged under Tim Sherwood at the end of the 2014-15 season, before slipping somewhat off the radar.

Grealish flourished in the second half of last season though, and almost drove Villa to the Premier League, before ultimately coming up short in the Championship play-off final.

The 23-year-old’s impressive performances have attracted major interest, and Tottenham were massively keen on luring him to North London, before Villa refused to sell.

The Express reported over the weekend that Spurs still want to sign Grealish, but he was set to sign a new contract with a £60million release clause in his deal.

Now, Grealish has indeed signed that deal, but there is no confirmed word on whether there is a release clause in the contract, with the playmaker signing a new five-year contract.

That should keep Spurs away in January, and Grealish has sent a heartfelt tweet to fans, suggesting that he is delighted to have extended his stay with such a ‘brilliant’ club, adding a rousing message that he wants to achieve that Villa have set out to do – return to the Premier League.
