Jack Grealish has praised Aston Villa on Instagram for their ‘great performance’ during their heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday.

Sadio Mane netted a stoppage winner as he played a part in Liverpool netting two late goals at Villa Park as Jurgen Klopp’s men maintained their unbeaten run in the Premier League.

Leading up to the match, it seemed as though Grealish, who hobbled off with an injury during Villa’s defeat to Manchester City last time out, was going to take part in this fixture.

But on the morning of the game, Grealish dropped out and had to watch on from the sidelines as his teammates produced a performance worthy of a point.

Here is the message Grealish sent from his personal Instagram account, as he was clearly proud of Villa’s performance against what was a ‘great side’:

Whilst Villa supporters would have been disappointed that Grealish was missing for the Liverpool game, they will be looking at the long-term situation and hoping that he is ready for Wolves next Sunday.

Dean Smith’s side will make the short trip across the Midlands to take on their local rivals, who they beat at Villa Park in the EFL Cup last Wednesday.

But not much can be taken from that game because Wolves fielded youngsters, whilst Smith played his back-up players, so both sets of managers would not have learnt much from that.

Despite the defeat against Liverpool, Villa will take the positives from the game and how they performed against the European Champions.
