Manchester City talent Jack Grealish has been quoted by BBC Live as saying that Tottenham make it “difficult” to get in behind, and commented on his tackle on Spurs star Son Heung-min – praising the South Korea captain after the win.

Pep Guardiola’s side came from behind to win 4-2 on Thursday night at The Etihad. Spurs took the lead just before half-time, scoring two quick-fire goals through Dejan Kulusevski, and then a header from defender Emerson Royal.

But City came out firing after the break. Inside 10 minutes, City were level – Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland getting their names on the score sheet. Then, Riyad Mahrez put City up just after the hour mark – nabbing a fourth late on.

A brilliant win for City. Not least because of their recent poor form, but also, because they came back after Spurs took the lead at such a crucial time. Spurs have proven to be somewhat of a bogey team for the Premier League champions.

Speaking after the match, Grealish gave his verdict on Tottenham’s defensive system. A team he almost joined from Aston Villa in 2018, Grealish also commented on his tackle to stop Son launching a counter attack in the first half.

“Tottenham have five at back so it was going to be difficult. They like to double up, so as a winger it is hard,” Grealish said. On his tackle on Son: “We gotta do it. Son is so good at breaking away so I put a tackle in. Luckily it worked out.”

Grealish himself has been in excellent form for Manchester City of late and was excellent again on Thursday night. He might not have added to his four goal involvements in the previous four games – but he was pivotal in certain areas.

That tackle on Son was perfect. He contributed in the final third and given Guardiola kept him on the pitch for the entire game shows just how important the City manager sees the ex-Villa ace right now. Big win for the Champions.
