Declan Rice is an important player in the West Ham United first team.

Declan Rice and Grady Diangana of West Ham United take a tour as West Ham United open their new training facility at Chadwell Heath on April 02, 2019 in Chadwell Heath, England.

Jack Collison has told The Sun that Declan Rice inspires the youngsters at West Ham United.

The former West Ham midfielder, who now works as the Under-16 manager at the London club, has underlined how Rice has taken the opportunity he has got at the Hammers.

The 20-year-old, who can operate as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder, has been at West Ham since 2014 and has established himself as an important player in the first team.

The England international has made 29 appearances in the Premier League for West Ham so far this season, scoring two goals in the process, according to WhoScored.

Collison has praised Rice, and he has stated that the youngster is an inspiration to the youngsters at West Ham.

Collison told The Sun: “Declan Rice inspires the boys here. He’s shown there’s an opportunity to make it. But you’ve got to work hard.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has stated on BBC Sport that he feels sorry for West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini.

The former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland international defender has given his take on West Ham’s lack of consistency so far this season.

Lawrenson wrote on BBC Sport: “I feel sorry for West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini. He puts his team out one week and they are are really, really good. They look like a good top-10 side. And then the next match they look like they have never met each other.

“People might question Pellegrini’s ability to motivate his players, but it can’t be that. He will say the same things every week to get them going, and one week it works and the next week it doesn’t.”
