Grant has been on loan to Stoke City from Derby County.
Former Derby County loanee Jack Butland wants Stoke City to extend Lee Grant’s spell at the Bet 365 Stadium, reports the Stoke Sentinel.
Grant made the surprise move from Derby to Stoke on deadline day, signing a loan deal which runs until January, and has impressed in Butland’s absence.
As such, Stoke are said to be keen to hand the 33-year-old a longer-term deal, despite Butland’s imminent return to training.
And the England goalkeeper is all for it, it seems.
When asked whether he would back a longer stay for his former Pride Park teammate, Butland told the Stoke Sentinel: “One hundred per cent.
“He’s done brilliantly well and whatever happens when I’m fit, he will be an able and valued member of the group, so yes I’d welcome that.
He added: “He’s come in and done extremely well and that’s all credit to him and the way he’s prepared, but to be honest I’m not surprised because I knew what kind of goalkeeper he was from when I was at Derby.”
Grant is out of contract at the end of the campaign, and with Scott Carson performing well in his absence, the former Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley goalkeeper is unlikely to be summoned back to Derby in January.
That said, Grant was a regular during Steve McClaren’s first spell as Rams boss, but lost his place to Carson at the start of last season.
As well as Butland, Grant has veteran Irishman Shay Given and young Dane Jakob Haugaard for company at Stoke.
