Reading boss was unhappy with Leeds fans’ reaction to his side’s performance at Elland Road.

Reading boss Jaap Stam is demonstrating himself to be just as uncompromising in post-match interviews as a manager as he was in his playing days as a tackler.

After his Reading team fell to a 2-0 loss at Leeds, Stam was stung by criticism he heard from supporters at Elland Road, who labelled his side boring.

Reading completed an astonishing 440 passes in their own half, but managed only two shots on target.

Speaking to Get Reading, Stam criticised Leeds supporters, and Garry Monk’s side.

He said: “You can tell something about how they are as human beings to be fair.

“It’s a way of thinking.

“Because if you think that this is boring I think they need to have a look at their own team and how they play.”

Stam perhaps has clearly not forgotten the bitter rivalry which existed between Leeds and his former side Manchester United, which he would have experienced first hand during his Premier League days in the late 90s and early 2000s.

He is into his first season in management with the Royals, and his side sit in third place despite the defeat, with Leeds gaining ground on them to move into fifth.

The two sides next meet on April 1, but it could be an even spicier occasion should the teams get drawn against each other in the play-offs, especially if it turns out to be the final at Wembley.
