Phillips earned man of the match as Leeds beat Wigan on Sunday.

Kalvin Phillips starred for Leeds United on Sunday as they earned a 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium to return to the top of the Championship table – and Izzy Brown has a new nickname for the Leeds midfielder.
Phillips, 22, has become one of the first names on the Leeds team sheet this season after being re-positioned by Marcelo Bielsa in a holding midfield role. Last season, he played behind the striker.
The quarterback role has seen the Thorp Arch academy product shine in Bielsa’s 4-1-4-1 system, allowing Leeds to build from deep and keep possession. He was named man of the match for his efforts against Wigan.
The midfielder, who has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs including Tottenham Hotspur for his performances, posted on Instagram after the win.
Phillips has started every single match under Bielsa this season, including Leeds’ two matches in the Carabao Cup that saw the Whites beat Bolton Wanderers before losing to Preston with a much-changed side.
Summer signing Izzy Brown, who joined the club on loan from Chelsea but is yet to make an appearance due to injury, reacted to Phillips’ Instagram post by nicknaming Phillips after Barcelona star Sergio Busquets.
Mirroring Busquets’ anchoring role between the defence and midfield, Brown likened Phillips to the Barca star in the comments on Phillips’ post.
