Chelsea’s Izzy Brown has told the Telegraph he does not regret his decision to quit West Bromwich Albion.

Brown made his Premier League bow for the Baggies at the age of 16 years and 117 days, but was soon on his way to the Blues in a deal which netted the Black Country club a £1 million fee decided at a tribunal hearing.

Now 20, the forward has appeared only once in Chelsea colours, spending time on loan at Vitesse Arnhem, Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town, with whom he is currently flourishing.

The Terriers sit third in the Championship, in which Brown has scored six goals and created five this season, and the England Under-19 star admitted it is the happiest he has been in his career.

“I don’t regret the decision to leave (West Brom),” Brown told the Telegraph ahead of Huddersfield’s visit of Manchester City in the FA Cup on Saturday. “Maybe I would have had more Premier League games but everyone has a different pathway.

“The manager at the time (Steve Clarke) was sacked early the following season and I could easily have been bombed back into the under-18s.

“People say leaving West Brom was all down to my family but it was all down to me. Being 16 and supporting Chelsea as a kid, when a team like that tells you they want you it’s hard for any teenager to say no. It’s all about timing, I’m still 20 and not too worried.”

Current West Brom boss Tony Pulis has not been afraid to provide youngsters opportunities, with academy graduates Sam Field, Jonathan Leko and Tyler Roberts each handed their senior debuts under the Welshman.

Would Brown have been better off staying with the Baggies?
