Nigerian youngster Alex Iwobi has lifted the lid on the reasoning behind his choice of the no.17 shirt at Arsenal when speaking at the launch of EA SPORTS FIFA 17, and quoted by the Evening Standard.
The 20-year-old burst on to the scene at the Emirates last term with a succession of impressive performances, and he has matured to a level now where Arsene Wenger must surely look at him as a genuine starting option.
The talented youngster has magnificent ball control, and his style is similar to that of former Arsenal man Alexander Hleb, but with the added attribute of an end product.

Iwobi donned the no.45 shirt last term, and told reporters why he changed to no.17 this season, as quoted by the Evening Standard:
“We were on a summer break and I was just chilling at home. I got a message saying, ‘Alex, you may have to change your number as No.45 is a youth team number’. They gave me options and I thought I would like to pick 17 because I heard Alexis was moving to No.7 so I thought ‘let me write my own legacy with No.17′. It doesn’t have any significance — it is just a number I like and I want to start my own thing with it.”

It is refreshing to hear a youngster so confident in his own ability that he is talking about forging his own legacy, rather than basing himself on someone else.
Next up for the Gunners is a trip to Burnley on Sunday, and Iwobi will be hoping that can build on his record of three assists in four games, and help fire his side to victory at Turf Moor.
