Derby County have picked up just one point from their previous five Championship outings.
Nigel Pearson – manager of Derby County
Former Championship striker and Scotland international Chris Iwelumo was speaking live on Sky Sports Now this morning at 10:50 am, and discussed the problems at Derby County.
The Rams are currently third from bottom in the Championship table, after recording just one win from their opening nine league outings.
Iwelumo told Sky Sports how the start of their downfall was allowing Chris Martin to join Fulham on loan last month:
Scotland’s Chris Martin
“Nigel’s experienced, he’s done this before at Leicester. The Derby squad on paper, they shouldn’t be where they are. They’ve let Chris Martin go, and I just don’t understand that. They need to get to winning ways because time is catching up.”
The East Midlands outfit face a tricky trip to Wales to take on Cardiff City tonight, and Nigel Pearson must find a way to inject a siege mentality into his side – similar to the one he helped develop at Leicester City when he guided the Foxes away from relegation trouble.

The actual levels of performance have been good from the Rams this term, it has just been their failure to put the ball in the back of the net which has cost them on so many occasions.
They have regularly dominated games, without being clinical in the final third, which makes Martin’s departure all the more baffling.
Their game against Cardiff kicks-off tonight at 19:45, and the spotlight will be shining well and truly on Pearson and his side.
