Leeds United suffered a damaging defeat to Championship rivals Norwich City at the weekend.
Former Huddersfield striker Iwan Roberts has stated that Leeds were made to look ‘very, very average’ during their top-of-table Championship clash against Norwich on Saturday.
Daniel Farke’s side picked up all three points at Elland Road in a blistering, high-energy and high-pressing attacking performance against their promotion rivals.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side conceded three goals on the night [BBC Sport] and were second best throughout the encounter, with striker Patrick Bamford netting a consolation.
Nonetheless, former Championship hitman Roberts issued some blunt views on Leeds as he was delighted that his former club, Norwich are showcasing what they are made of this season.
“I mean that result on Saturday evening at Elland Road that was a marker,” Roberts told Jim White on talkSPORT on 04/02/2019. “That really was a statement.
“They were well and truly beaten earlier on in the season down at Carrow Road, but to go up there and dominate the game the way they and to score three goals. They made top-of-the-table Leeds at the time look very, very average.”
As a result of that win over the weekend, Norwich leapfrogged the Whites in the Championship table, but both teams are level on points after 30 matches.
There is no doubt that the race for the title and promotion to the Premier League will go to the wire this season with a number of clubs closely following the top two.
Third-placed Sheffield United are three points behind the automatic duo, while fourth-placed West Brom and Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough and seven points behind.
The next round of league fixtures make for interesting reading, with Chris Wilder’s side travelling to Aston Villa on Friday, Boro hosting Leeds this Saturday and Norwich taking on rivals Ipswich on Sunday.
