Newcastle United have been linked with the Liverpool midfielder.

The Northern Echo have reported that Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez wants to sign Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva.
The Spanish manager is responsible for bringing the Brazil international to England after signing him for Liverpool back in 2007.
The 30-year-old, whose contract expires next summer, has since clocked over 250 Premier League appearances for the Reds and Newcastle, according to the report, will have to part with about £4 million to bring him to St James’s Park this summer.

Given how the defensive midfielder has spent 10 years at Anfield, some Liverpool fans aren’t delighted at the idea of losing him to another Premier League side, while Newcastle fans seem willing to take him.

Newcastle are preparing for their first season back in the Premier League following a year in the Championship, and Lucas would certainly offer some solidity and experience to their midfield next term.
At 30, the Brazilian still has a lot to offer and the Magpies should certainly be trying to bring him to the North East.
