Aston Villa will face off against League Two side Barrow AFC in the second round of the League Cup.
The club announced on their official wesbite that Dean Smith’s side will make three and a half-hour drive up the M6 in Cumbria. It will be the first meeting ever between the two clubs.
Villa will be eyeing silverware this season after an impressive window so far in the summer market. Although Jack Grealish has departed for a British record fee, the Birmingham side’s spending has been eye-catching.
Emi Buendia signed for a club-record fee whilst the likes of Leon Bailey, Ashley Young and Danny Ings have also joined the club this summer.
Indeed, Villa look, on paper at least, one of the most intriguing sides in the Premier League this season. The club finished 11th last campaign, and Smith will be keen to aim for a higher placing over the coming months.
As for the League Cup, Villa could make a splash in the competition. And an away trip to Barrow, who returned to the Football League just a season ago, will be a good test for the Premier League side.
And on social media, Villa fans are excited about the trip to Cumbria to take on the Bluebirds. With fans now allowed in stadiums at max capacity, supporters will be eager to return the stands for away games.
