Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel, Lyall Thomas has been discussing Tottenham’s reported interest in Hakim Ziyech.
The north London club have been linked with a move for the Chelsea ace over the past 48 hours, but this link has taken Thomas by surprise.
Indeed, the journalist says that he’s seen various lists of Tottenham targets from various sources this summer, and Ziyech’s name hasn’t appeared on any of them.
What’s been said?
Thomas gave his view on the Ziyech reports.
“Well, it’s the first time I’ve seen that name mentioned with Spurs this summer. He has not cropped up in any conversations I’ve had and nobody has suggested him. I’ve seen various lists from various sources and I’ve not seen him on any of Spurs’ list this summer. Objectively, the relationship between Chelsea and Spurs is hardly great, you saw that the other day, so I can’t imagine Chelsea or Thomas Tuchel would be willing to help Tottenham in any way,” Thomas said.
Plans change
Thomas says that Ziyech hasn’t been considered a Spurs target at all this summer, but that isn’t to say that the recent reports aren’t accurate.
Indeed, the transfer window is incredibly fluid and plans can change at the drop of a hat.
Agents may have offered Ziyech to Spurs or their own plans may have changed, and while he’s not been a player they’ve been keen on all summer long, late twists and turns are possible at any club in this market – Tottenham fans ought to know that better than anyone.
Ziyech probably isn’t one of Spurs’ top targets. After all, these reports have come from out of nowhere, but with moves for Nicolo Zaniolo and James Maddison seemingly hitting a dead-end, this could be an alternative attacking midfield option that has emerged late in the day.
