Garth Crooks has included Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah in his Premier League Team of the season on BBC Sport.

However, the BBC pundit has criticised Salah for being selfish and creating chances only for himself.

The former Tottenham Hotspur forward has also praised Liverpool star Sadio Mane for working tirelessly for the team.

Crooks wrote on BBC Sport: “Well he missed out on the coveted Golden Boot, but frankly who cares? Champions League football was a must for Salah and for Liverpool.

“I’ve said repeatedly that Salah’s selfishness has had an effect on his team-mates, and none more so than Sadio Mane.

“The Senegal striker works tirelessly for the team and shares his opportunities. Salah tends to carve chances out for himself and clearly feels he has earned them.

“Regardless, Salah finished the season against Crystal Palace brilliantly with the sort of team performance that graced his game when he first arrived at Anfield.”

Crooks slammed Salah on BBC Sport earlier this month, saying that the Egypt international forward “only seems interested in the Golden Boot”.

Salah scored 22 goals in the Premier League this season, just one fewer than Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

The 28-year-old – who cost Liverpool £34 million in transfer fees in 2017, according to BBC Sport – is a big reason why Liverpool could end up in the Premier League top four.

Yes, Salah can be selfish and greedy, but which forward is not?

The former AS Roma star has developed into a goal machine.

That is a big reason why Salah is such a huge player for Liverpool and why he has been a massive success at Anfield.

Salah is a player who takes risks with his shots and is willing to take his chance with efforts on goal.

If you take that away from Salah, he would not be the same player.
