Joe Rodon has made it clear that he wants ‘more’ game time at Tottenham, as he told Sky Sports Football (11/10/21 at 7:20 pm).

The Tottenham defender is earning more minutes for his country than he is at club level – he started back-to-back games for Wales over the international break.

That is yet to happen for Rodon under Nuno Espirito Santo’s stewardship, with his minutes mainly coming away from the Premier League.

It’s frustrating for the 23-year-old because he then goes for Wales duty under-cooked, which isn’t helpful for a nation that’s not got the depth in quality like other major nations, such as England.

It seems as though the Jose Mourinho’s signing has accepted that his minutes will come in Europe, rather than the Premier League, as he shared his thoughts on his lack of game time.

“Like I have said many times before, I would love to play more,” said Rodon. “But that’s just what football is and I have to keep my head down, and keep working hard.

“I have had some games under my belt in the Europa Conference League. It’s important to keep ticking over and keep match fit.

“Then you come away here (for Wales) and you put in some performances.”

Spurs are still in the League Cup, which helps Rodon’s chance of more minutes, then there is the remaining group games of the Europa Conference League.

For the former Swansea man, it’s just a case of being ready and sharp for Wales’ next set of World Cup qualifiers.

It’s touch-and-go for Rob Page’s men in their quest to reach Qatar and they need players like Rodon earning minutes if they are to get that golden plane ticket.
