Jamie Carragher has made it clear on Sky Sports Football (19/10/20 at 7:40 pm) that he ‘cannot see’ either Tottenham, Arsenal or Everton winning the Premier League title this season – (he included Chelsea & Man United also)

Following Virgil van Dijk’s injury for Liverpool, Carragher stated that he now puts Manchester City ‘favourites’ for the crown, but did admit that he is still expecting a ‘great title race’ from all those teams because of the current circumstances.

Given the unique nature of this campaign and the crazy goal-fest start, it has raised the questions as to whether something unusual will happen, as Everton currently top the table.

Carragher pointed out that both Liverpool and Man City needed to drop from their previous high standards in order for others to be brought back into the race, but even with that drop, he doesn’t see something extraordinary happening.

“I now think on the back of Van Dijk, I think Man City are favourites,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“But what I have said before Chelsea, Manchester United, Spurs, Arsenal and Everton are up there, at this moment. They couldn’t get to 98 or 99 points, they needed the top two to drop

“City dropped last season to 82. Are Liverpool going to drop to the 80’s? And that’s where the gap will bridge. Then can these teams make a stronger challenge?

“I still cannot see one of those sides winning the league. But I still think we are going to have a great title race.”

Well, as things stand, both Everton and Aston Villa are sitting in the top two and are the only two unbeaten sides in the Premier League.

Whilst it’s still early days, results such as Leicester putting five past Pep Guardiola’s men and the champions conceding seven at Villa has tickled the title taste buds in different ways than before.

A lot still has to happen in order for the extraordinary to happen, but it does seem as though the opportunity for the crazy to happen is on the table.
