Gary Neville has claimed that has has ‘not seen’ an atmosphere like the one building up to Leeds and Liverpool at Elland Road today for ‘many, many years’, as he told Sky Sports News (12/09/21 at 2:50 pm)

The Sky pundit thinks this is the ‘biggest game’ for Leeds at Elland Road since they returned to the top-flight.

Leeds and Liverpool were involved in some tasty battles last season and have done so in the Premier League before – those four goals from Mark Viduka will live long in the memory for Whites fans.

And before kick-off, Neville made a claim about the fans and the feeling around the place.

“What I am excited about is that this is the biggest game at Elland Road since they have come back into the Premier League,” said Neville.

“I have not seen this atmosphere at this ground for many, many years. And I am looking forward to it today. Liverpool will bring the best out of these Leeds fans.

“But I do think Liverpool will come out on top.”

It has been nearly two decades since Leeds fans have been able to pack out Elland Road and watch two heavyweights go at it in the Premier League.

And whilst fans weren’t allowed into stadiums last season, they are now and it’s going to be one tasty atmosphere in Yorkshire.

The Leeds players will need those fans today because they are searching for that all-important first win of the new campaign.

And given some of the problems they caused Jurgen Klopp’s side last season then they will be hoping to cause the same damage this afternoon, but with a different end result.
