QPR boss Mark Warburton has played down speculation linking the Championship outfit with a move for Rangers winger Josh McPake, while speaking to West London Sport.
Following a stellar loan spell at Harrogate Town, the 19-year-old Scot is destined to play at a much higher level in 2021/22.
It remains to be seen, however, if his future lies the Scottish Premiership or the English second tier.
According to the Daily Record, it is more likely to be the former than the latter.
Ross Wilson, Rangers’ director of football, is thrilled about the way McPake has built on his undoubted potential at Harrogate, with the Lanarkshire-born speed-machine expected to be rewarded for his development with a chance in Steven Gerrard’s first-team next term.
This has not stopped a number of clubs from south of the border expressing their interest, however.
The Record adds that, along with Bristol City, Queens Park Rangers have been taking a keen interest in McPake since he arrived in Yorkshire two months ago.
Although, as QPR manager Warburton points out, rumours do not always equal reality.
“That’s one I’m unaware of,” the former Rangers coach said when asked about his alleged interest in McPake.
“We’re linked with so many players and I’ve no idea where these rumours emanate from.
“Agents do it all the time. It’s just the nature of the game.”
An old-school right-winger, McPake would give Rangers something a little different on the right-hand side of Gerrard’s frontline; a more natural, Ryan Kent-style wide man compared to the drifting Ianis Hagi.
