According to La Razon, Aston Villa could go out and try to sign Pau Torres from Villarreal.
This would be a very ambitious signing from Villa. After all, Torres has been courted by clubs such as Tottenham and Manchester United in the past, but Villa are an ambitious club.
Indeed, according to The Telegraph, the Villans were ready to give Mauricio Pochettino £100m to spend if he took the job at Villa Park, and there’s reason to believe that Emery could have a similar transfer kitty – which would certainly be enough to lure Torres to the Midlands.
Of course, Torres is a player that Emery knows very well from his time at Villarreal, and he’s also seemingly a player he rates highly, claiming last year that he’d never seen a centre-back quite like the Spaniard.

Unique player
Emery was full of praise for Torres last year.
“Pau Torres is an amazing player – I think he’s top,” Emery told Football London.
“I’ve been a coach in Sevilla, PSG, Arsenal and I’ve never seen a centre back like Pau Torres.
“I think he’s going to play at the highest level, he’s playing now in the national team but he can play in the top teams in Europe very soon.”
Huge praise
For Emery to say that he’s never seen a defender like Pau Torres is massive praise.
Let’s not forget, Emery has managed some of the world’s biggest teams and some of the world’s best centre-backs.
He’s coached the likes of Thiago Silva, Presnel Kimpembe, Marquinhos, William Saliba and Raul Albiol in the past, so Torres is in good company.
This is a very talented defender, and bringing him to Villa Park would be a huge statement of intent from the new manager.
