Jeff Stelling has claimed on Twitter that he has ‘lost a lot of respect’ for West Ham United for how they reacted to a video surfacing of Kurt Zouma kicking his cat.
The Sky presenter stated ‘there has to be punishment’ for Zouma, who started West Ham’s 1-0 win over Watford on Tuesday, just hours after that video was shared all over the internet.
Sky News report that Zouma has had his two cats taken away by the RSPCA following that incident and fined £250,000 by his club.
Of course, given the grotesque nature of the France international’s actions, it has sparked fury, not just in the footballing world, but outside of it.
There was a lot of anger when the footage first emerged and a lot of eyes were on the West Ham teamsheet ahead of their home against Watford last night.
Many were expecting the London club to leave the 27-year-old out of the squad altogether, but when he started, it created even more of an outrage.
Soccer Saturday presenter, Stelling, at first, sent a sarcastic tweet when the teamsheet was confirmed, before making his feelings clear on the matter.
The Hammers are next in action on Sunday when they travel to the Midlands to take on Leicester City.
Once again, all eyes will be on the teamsheet and whether David Moyes keeps Zouma in the XI.
At the end of the day, this incident won’t go away and the public want serious action taken, rather than what has already happened.
Moyes would have been wise to dampen the fire by not playing Zouma yesterday, but he has now put himself up for criticism also for the decision he decided to take.
