Former Rangers striker Andy Gray could be seen and heard literally laughing on Saturday after discovering the result of the Celtic game.

The Parkhead club suffered a shock 2-1 defeat by St Mirren in Glasgow yesterday.

In doing so, Rangers still have a 23-point lead over their bitter Old Firm rivals in the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic’s bid to win 10 league titles on the spin is all but over and despite having two games in hand, it would take a brave man to back them to win either on this current form.

Gray was working for BeIN Sport on Saturday and watching Everton – another of his old clubs – lose made him cut a frustrated figure.

But the legendary Scottish attacker chirped right up after hearing that the Hoops had lost.

He said, in between fits of laughter: “Well, do I have to say it? Well the reason I’ve cheered up is that I’ve just seen Celtic got beat today at home to St Mirren. I’m very happy! That’s why I’ve cheered up. Sorry everybody. It’s my team.”

This is anything but a laughing matter for the Bhoys, whose manager appears to have a very uncertain future after this latest setback.

It was supposed to be the season that Celtic completed their historic 10-in-a-row bid but, in fairness to Rangers, Steven Gerrard’s side have been flawless, even if their rivals haven’t been at the races.

The light Blues have won 23 and drawn three of their 26 league games this season.
