It doesn’t get much tougher for Leeds United as far as opening-games go.

The Whites have discovered who they’ll face in the first game of the Premier League season after a 16-year absence – and it’s the champions, Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s side cruised to a first-ever title in July, winning the league with an astonishing 99 points.

Leeds won the Championship en route to booking their spot in the top flight for the first time since 2004.

And a tricky trip to Anfield on September 12 is first on the agenda for United boss Marcelo Bielsa and his troops.

Here’s how former Liverpool star Don Hutchison reacted to that news on Twitter:

Is there easier first games for Leeds? Absolutely, but the good news is that Liverpool away is undoubtedly the toughest fixture in the calendar and to get it out of the way immediately could be a positive.

The other fixture that fans of the Elland Road club would’ve been looking for this morning when the games were announced is Manchester United at home, which isn’t until April 24.

It’s a long, long way away but, again, there is good news in the sense that fans could be permitted to attend matches again by that point.
