Fabrizio Romano has told his Here We Go podcast that he has ‘heard’ in the ‘last few hours’ that a deal between Liverpool and Mo Salah is still not close to completion. Romano says it remains a priority, but nothing is agreed.

Salah, 29, has been in stunning form for Liverpool this season – with many pundits and fans suggesting that the Egyptian superstar is the best player in the world, currently. He has 23 goals and nine assists in 26 appearances.

But there are concerns among Liverpool fans that Salah’s future has not been sorted. He is out of contract in June 2023, and failure to secure a deal might force Liverpool into a sale in the next couple of windows.

Romano delivered an update in his latest podcast. He states that a deal is “not close”, and that it is going to take time. Perhaps worryingly, Romano states that they are some way from an announcing Salah’s renewal.

“They are still negotiating. But from what I’ve heard in the last few hours, it is not close. We are not at the final stages, or close to an announcement. For Liverpool, it is a real priority, they want to resolve it as soon as possible.”

Romano on Salah: Should Liverpool fans begin to be worried?

Liverpool are renowned for having a transfer strategy where they place their faith in youth. But keeping Mo Salah is a necessity, a priority, one that is much more important than adhering to a transfer philosophy.

Salah is Liverpool’s attacking heartbeat – and arguably, the reason they remain one of England’s best three clubs. It is crucial they extend his contract, and a compromise needs to be found between all involved.

Should Liverpool fans begin to get worried? As time goes one, the worry will increase. But as Romano says, while talks are ongoing – there should be no fear. When those talks cool, or cease, that is when the panic will start.
