Leeds United are reportedly admirers of Manchester United youngster James Garner, with the Yorkshire side potentially eyeing a move for the England youth international this summer.

According to the Athletic’s Phil Hay when asked about potential midfield signings in the transfer window, the Leeds reporter said the Whites are keeping a close eye on the United midfielder, who is enjoying a successful year out on loan with Nottingham Forest.

Hay wrote: “It’ll be interesting to see who Leeds target. James Garner, the Manchester United midfielder who’s on loan at Nottingham Forest in the Championship and having a very good year, is someone I’ve heard mentioned recently.”

The Sun have previously reported that Leeds are tracking the 20-year-old midfielder, who after coming through the ranks at United has been compared to former England international and five-time Premier League champion Michael Carrick.

After a successful loan spell with Forest, it will be interesting to see what direction United take with Garner amid interest from Leeds ahead of the summer, with another temporary transfer the most likely outcome for the youngster.

Indeed, Leeds look set to bring in a new central midfielder this summer, along with Brenden Aaronson from RB Salzburg, and Garner could be an exceptional signing for Jesse Marsch’s side, especially if they can pull off a permanent deal.

The American coach will this summer be set on stamping his authority on the Leeds squad, and signing Garner could be the former RB Leipzig coach’s first step in moving on from Marcelo Bielsa, and this should excite supporters.

After all, Garner is a technical midfielder with an eye for goal from set-pieces, and the youngster fits the philosophy of what Marsch is trying to achieve at Leeds, which in time will be something that fans will love to see unfold on the pitch.
