Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Graeme Bailey has been discussing Newcastle United’s transfer plans this summer.

The Tyneside club have been linked with so many players in recent weeks, but a number of rumours regarding Chelsea players just won’t go away.

Indeed, the Magpies have been linked to the likes of Christian Pulisic and Armando Broja, but, as of yet, there has been no concrete movement on those fronts.

According to Bailey, there is a good reason for this.

The reporter states that Newcastle aren’t keen to pursue a loan deal for either Pulisic or Broja just in case Conor Gallagher becomes available as they’re only allowed to loan one Chelsea player at a time – as per the Premier League’s rules.

What’s been said?

Bailey shared what he knows about Newcastle’s interest in the Chelsea trio.

“That’s what’s delayed some of these Chelsea deals. Teams would love to take two or three players from Chelsea, we saw Newcastle after Pulisic, Gallagher and Broja as well, I’ve heard that Newcastle were hesitant to push on one of those just in case Conor Gallagher became available because he’s the one everyone wants, if he becomes available and you’d got Armando Broja last week you’d be wishing you’d waited seven days and got him instead,” Bailey said.

Can’t wait too long

While Gallagher is the Chelsea player that Newcastle are most keen on, they can’t put all of their eggs in this basket.

Let’s be realistic, after the injury to N’Golo Kante, Chelsea won’t be keen to ditch Gallagher anytime soon, and with the likes of Manchester United and West Ham circling Pulisic and Broja, Newcastle may need to get a move on if they are to secure either of these deals.

Newcastle don’t want to be caught short, and while Gallagher is the main target, Pulisic or Broja certainly wouldn’t be bad consolation prizes.
